At the recent Refrigeration, Air-conditioning & Heat Pump Symposium hosted by Danfoss in Denmark, experts gathered to share solutions and strategies for a more sustainable food system. SINTEF Ocean and IIR participated to this insightful and eventful gathering!
A standout moment was the keynote by Yosr Allouche (IIR), who presented on Decarbonisation Opportunities and Challenges. Drawing on insights from both the ENOUGH and INDEE+ projects, she explored how innovation and cross-sector collaboration can accelerate the transition toward climate neutrality.
Kristina N. Widell from SINTEF Ocean also contributed to the programme, joining a technology dialogue with Hans Ole Matthiesen and Niels Arbjerg, where she presented work from the ENOUGH project, which focuses on decarbonising the food cold chain. She shared practical solutions and highlighted key recommendations, including:
- Transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy
- Improving energy efficiency and system performance
- Using natural refrigerants (avoiding PFAS pollution)
- Reducing food loss and waste across the chain
Kristina particularly emphasised the importance of looking at the entire value chain — understanding how improvements upstream can create downstream impact, especially in regions where infrastructure and access remain limited.
A big thank you to Danfoss for the invitation and for bringing us all together, scientists, policy makers and industry leaders around such an insightful event!
