Silvia Minetto and Judith Evans attended the recent Euroshop trade fair to present the ENOUGH project attendees. The fair in Dusseldorf ran from February 26 to March 02 and is the premier event for manufacturers of supermarket refrigeration equipment to display their equipment to buyers. The fair attracted companies and visitors from across the World. Although take up of trade stands was down by 25% on previous fairs most of the large manufacturers were present and the trade halls were still full.
Silvia and Judith presented information on the ENOUIG project in the Epta conference area. Epta are partners in the ENOUGH project and so provided a slot on the first 4 days of the fair to communicate information about the ENOUGH project. Silvia and Judith mainly concentrated on the work to develop a retail road map and on demonstration activities that were of interest to the fair attendees. The road map is currently being finalised and will provide information on a wide range of technologies that supermarkets and retail equipment manufacturers can apply to save energy and carbon. The demonstration activities are showcasing equipment that can be applied in the near future to save carbon emissions. In particular the ENOUGH team showed the refrigerated transport vehicle which has photovoltaic panels on the roof and operates using R744 as the refrigerant which is being developed by CNR. They also showed the novel thermal storage thermosiphon system being developed by INRAE to enable refrigerated cabinets to be turned off for longer during demand side response periods.
Finally, they presented a Dairy Factory in Norway. The demo consists of a CO2 unit providing cooling and heating; Sintef Ocean is monitoring and optimising integration startegies, including TES, for the energy efficiency improvement and GHG emissions reduction.
