The ENOUGH project recently arranged a dairy workshop in Norway, in collaboration with the projects PCM-STORE and HighEFF. The goal was to share experiences regarding energy systems and measures taken to reduce emissions and energy demand.
The Norwegian partners SINTEF, NTNU and Rørosmeieriet received visitors from UK partners LSBU, Yeo Valley and Star, and the Austrian partner TU Graz.
The workshop started in Røros visiting the organic dairy Rørosmeieriet. Together with SINTEF and NTNU they presented their work on the Norwegian dairy demonstrator case, where they have installed equipment to measure energy savings at the dairy. We all got a tour in the dairy, learning more about the energy measures and how the energy flows are monitored.
TU Graz presented the work on the Austrian Dairy demonstrator case, where they integrated a high temperature heat pump in a dairy together with Equans.
The second day was spent in Trondheim, where we visited the Norwegian Dairy TINE, who openly shared their work towards energy savings and showed us the factory and refrigeration solutions.
Yeo Valley and LSBU presented their goals and measures towards reduced emissions and increased sustainability in the UK Dairy demonstrator.
Star presented some heat pump case studies, sharing important lessons and experiences.
The insightful presentations lead to discussions of how the solutions from the dairy case studies can be transferred to other sectors as well, to ensure that the demonstrators of ENOUGH can fulfil the objective of creating a sustainable food chain.
Some of the participants also stayed an extra day to join a tour at the NTNU/SINTEF lab to learn more about their work heat pump and refrigeration systems.
All in all, the workshop was a motivating event with lots of new insights and motivation to improve solutions related to heating, cooling, refrigeration, and processing of dairy products. We look forward to following the dairy demonstrators in the ENOUGH project!
